Staffordshire County Council provides over 400 services across Staffordshire, employs nearly 35,000 people and spends £1.4billion of public money each year.
Amongst the services the County Council is either directly or indirectly responsible for are Social Services and some aspects of Health in partnership with the NHS, Policing, Fire and Rescue, Public Transport, Highways, Schools and Education including the Youth Service and Connexions, Public Protection through emergency planning, Coroner Services, Strategic Planning for Housing, Trading Standards and Strategic Environmental Planning such as Quarries and Waste Management (although local councils collect the waste).

Lichfield District Council
Lichfield District Council employs nearly 500 staff and provides services specific to the Lichfield area.
These include local Planning Applications and Development Planning for the district, collection of Council Tax on behalf of the County Council and others, dealing with local Housing Benefit and Homelessness, Environmental Health, Street Cleaning, Leisure Centres, some Public Parks, Bin Collections, Public Car Parks and promoting the local economy through schemes such as the proposed new shopping centres in Lichfield and Burntwood.
