Committees and Working Parties
Parish Councillors meet on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm in the Whittington Bit End Pavilion.
Members of the public are welcome to attend and each meeting is adjourned for 15 minutes to enable residents to ask questions or make statements. If possible 3 days notice should be given for questions that will need research in order to answer.
Committees and Working Parties meet throughout the year.
Finance
Chair - Cllr. Chris Millar
This committee aims to assist the Parish Council in achieving its financial obligations and objectives. The committee also provides an ongoing internal financial audit of to ensure correspondence with planned income and expenditure.
Recreation & Leisure
Chair – Cllr. Steve Bird
This committee aims to review, make proposals for and if approved oversee the development of the range of recreational facilities across the village. Undertaking regular safety and maintenance checks of the Parish play areas. Liaising with various sports clubs in the Parish. Regular and preventative maintenance on the War Memorial, Bus Shelters and Parish furniture.
Zero Carbon Whittington
Chair – Cllr. Garry Hyde
The objective of Zero Carbon Whittington is to help Whittington and Fisherwick reduce it’s carbon footprint and tackle climate change.
Environment
Chair – Cllr. Garry Hyde
This committee meets regularly to tackle environmental issues which affect the village and the surrounding areas. This committee also deals with Rights of Way issues, Visual Quality of the village issues and Health and Safety issues. Some current areas of debate include: planning; traffic concerns; anti-social behaviour; village enhancement projects and walks around Whittington.
Communications
Chair – Cllr. Robert Pass
This committee is responsible for considering how the parish council communicates with the community. Specifically, this committee creates and distributes the Parish Council newsletters, maintains and develops the website and our social media presence.
Canal Working Party
This working party is responsible for the maintenance of Whttington Canal from Whittington Bridge to Swan Bridge. This stretch of the canal was adopted from the Canal and River Trust in 2023.
Woodland Working Party
This working party is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Whittington Wood. It’s aim is to improve natural habitats and biodiversity for the enjoyment of the community and wildlife.
